The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Jackson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting Hunt proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 69th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Johnson at Round 4, Pick 3 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Jalyx Hunt in pick No. 105, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach the 137th pick and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A conviction pick on Curtis Jacobs at slot 180 that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Ryan Flournoy at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Garret Greenfield in pick No. 231; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
