The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They banked enough surplus on Latu to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Jayden Daniels in the 3rd overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Laiatu Latu at No. 34 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Johnny Wilson in the 137th pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kamal Hadden in pick 180. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Steal is underselling it; Malik Mustapha at Round 6, Pick 18 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Garret Greenfield was the payoff at slot 231. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
