The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Ollie Gordon II, the No. 165 name on the board, sitting there at the 220th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Brown has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They liked Tate Ratledge enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 38. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Harold Fannin Jr. in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jake Majors at slot 77 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Logan Brown in pick No. 104, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 143rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Dellinger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ollie Gordon II at No. 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Justin Walley at Round 7, Pick 22 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
