Start where it matters. The Patriots took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Landing Odunze that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Steal is underselling it; Rome Odunze at pick No. 34 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Brandon Dorlus at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Blake Fisher. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Jaheim Bell went about where he belonged in pick 136. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 182 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Miyan Williams slid further than he should have, and the 229th pick is lovely value for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
