There is reaching, and then there is Barryn Sorrell at Round 7, Pick 22. The Patriots jumped the board by 71 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Phillips. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jonah Savaiinaea in pick 38 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jayden Higgins at Round 3, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Maxwell Hairston at No. 81 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Malachi Moore for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jordan Phillips at the 145th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Etienne at pick 219, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Jacob Parrish in slot 222, a step better than break-even. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
