The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The cost of the Harrell reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A conviction pick on Xavier Worthy at pick 34 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Malachi Corley, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Blake Fisher in No. 103, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan Laube. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach on Jaylen Harrell in the 182nd overall pick; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Daequan Hardy in slot 224. A minor itch, scratched.
Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 12 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
