This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Braelon Allen, the No. 155 name on the board, stolen at the 182nd pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. If Gentry pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
A conviction pick on J.J. McCarthy at slot 34 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick 68, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jacob Cowing in the 103rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Jalyx Hunt, who had no business lasting to the 139th pick. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Braelon Allen in No. 182 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Daequan Hardy in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Eric Gentry at pick No. 232 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
