The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Every board in the league had Gentry lower, and that gap is the story.
Jordan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Brenden Rice in slot 68 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jacob Cowing in the 103rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the 139th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Davis at pick No. 181, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trey Knox at No. 182 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Jawhar Jordan, who had no business lasting to pick 223. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Brian Ugwu in pick No. 224, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eric Gentry at No. 232 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
