Thirty-one other rooms let Kamal Hadden slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will answer for taking S-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots went begging. They will need Weaver to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in the 42nd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Guyton at No. 68 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Gabriel Murphy in pick No. 104 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A curious use of pick 124. Interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots needed the pick; a S-EDGE in Jalyx Hunt did not.
They let Sataoa Laumea come to them and pounced at the 136th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Kamal Hadden still on the board at Round 6, Pick 7. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach for J.J. Weaver in slot 229; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
