The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They are betting Thomas proves the room right and everyone else wrong. However the rest shakes out, Guyton at that price is a win they earned.
The Hunt pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and safety still on the board. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Drake Maye in Round 1, Pick 3, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Jordan Morgan in the 34th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Guyton reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose S-EDGE. Jalyx Hunt in slot 124 leaves interior defensive lineman and safety for later.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 128 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ben Sinnott at pick 136 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Davis in the 182nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ryan Watts at pick No. 229 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Thomas at slot 236, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
