They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
The Rice value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Every board in the league had Barner lower, and that gap is the story.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
In the 27th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 68, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Brenden Rice here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in pick 104, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Ben Sinnott, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on AJ Barner in slot 188; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Erick All at the 229th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
