They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Rice to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Allen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Morgan at the 37th overall pick is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They robbed the room for Troy Franklin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Patrick Paul at pick 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Brenden Rice at No. 103 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Max Melton in the 139th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Braelon Allen at pick No. 145 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah Davis at Round 6, Pick 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on AJ Barner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Christian Jones at Round 7, Pick 4 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
Jalen Green in pick 232 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
