They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jayden Higgins, 57 picks early at Round 7, Pick 4. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Jordan Burch at par in Round 2, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Josh Simmons in pick 72 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Elic Ayomanor at the 85th pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bryce Foster at pick No. 108 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Azareye'h Thomas in No. 144 says they were not listening. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A premium they did not need to pay, Damien Martinez a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jayden Higgins this early at pick No. 218. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
