If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
The Arroyo steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Trapilo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In the end it comes back to Omarion Hampton, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Omarion Hampton come to them and pounced at pick 38. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Omarr Norman-Lott in the 69th overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Ozzy Trapilo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Donovan Jackson in the 97th pick, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 105 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
