The rest of the league will want that one back. Jake Briningstool tumbling to the Patriots in the 217th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Tee Higgins gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Conerly Jr.. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Restrepo at the 69th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Ozzy Trapilo in slot 106 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Briningstool at No. 217 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
