After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
On value alone, Trice makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
The board fumbled Olumuyiwa Fashanu all the way to slot 34, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Kingsley Suamataia, who had no business lasting to pick 68. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 103rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Johnny Wilson in pick No. 137 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 5 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They barely believed it either: Tykee Smith still on the board at No. 193. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tahj Washington at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
