You build a draft on nights like this. Jordan Morgan had no business being available in the Round 3 slot, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Hunt reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in J.J. McCarthy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Khyree Jackson in the 103rd pick, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than Jalyx Hunt at pick 137, and it noticed. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
They took Tip Reiman at par in slot 180, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Daijun Edwards at Round 6, Pick 18 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
