The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Flournoy at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
The cost of the Davis reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Graham Barton graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Amarius Mims slipping to the 38th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Chris Braswell at pick 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at Round 4, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Davis in slot 137 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at pick No. 180. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Ryan Flournoy all the way to pick No. 231, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
