You build a draft on nights like this. Kiran Amegadjie had no business being available in the 104th overall pick, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Hunt has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
They liked J.J. McCarthy enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 37. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Keon Coleman at No. 69 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalyx Hunt at pick 150 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Somehow Jarrian Jones was still sitting there in slot 183, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Daijun Edwards in Round 7, Pick 3 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a linebacker like Curtis Jacobs reach the 229th overall pick and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
