The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Cam Skattebo, pick No. 217, roughly 103 picks past where he belonged.
They will need Caldwell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in the 38th overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Watts in Round 3, Pick 5 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Donovan Jackson at the 77th pick, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Majors at slot 105. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at pick 143 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in pick No. 217, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach on Jaylin Smith in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for Jamaree Caldwell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
