They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 34 with a little surplus value in Tyler Guyton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Payton Wilson at pick 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Gabriel Murphy in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Brenden Rice in the 103rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Leonard Taylor III in slot 104 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Jones in No. 137. A need, and now a little less of one.
Malik Mustapha in Round 6, Pick 5 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Erick All, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Tayvion Robinson went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
