After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Hadden pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Ladd McConkey at slot 34 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in pick No. 68, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Javon Foster at the 137th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Mustapha at the Round 6 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Kamal Hadden in pick 193 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tayvion Robinson in No. 231 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
