When a board-topper like Kamal Hadden slides to Round 7, Pick 11, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. No fireworks, but a solid B.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Jer'Zhan Newton at slot 34 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Javon Baker was the payoff at the 103rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Gabriel Murphy at Round 5, Pick 1 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and AJ Barner at pick 180 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Harrell at the Round 6 slot, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 231 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
