Call it larceny. TreVeyon Henderson sat on the board until slot 218, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Isaiah Bond in pick No. 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in the 72nd overall pick, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at slot 86. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Sonny Styles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Jake Majors was still sitting there in No. 144, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
TreVeyon Henderson in the 218th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Nwankpa at pick 223 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaishawn Barham in pick 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
