New England Patriots

The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 44 spots for Jack Kelly, and value like that does not grow back. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stukes.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Jordyn Tyson · WR · rank 23
In the 27th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 72
Jacob Rodriguez at the Round 2 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Kobi Lane. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 96
They robbed the room for Treydan Stukes here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 137
DeMonte Capehart in Round 4, Pick 27 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
Jack Endries slipping to No. 131 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Aamil Wagner · OT · rank 174
They took Aamil Wagner at par in the 171st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · VJ Payne · S · rank 196
VJ Payne in Round 6, Pick 10 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 185
They read the board right and DJ Campbell was the payoff at the 198th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 190
Ephesians Prysock in slot 202 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 256
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Kelly well ahead of where he belonged. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Adam Randall · RB · rank 275
A big swing on Adam Randall at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
