You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Barryn Sorrell in the Round 7 slot.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Neal steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Value with a capital V on Emeka Egbuka in slot 38, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Burch at the 69th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Donovan Jackson in pick No. 77, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Devin Neal still on the board at the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, O'Donnell Fortune in the 145th pick, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
No drama and no debate, Cam Jackson went about where he belonged in pick No. 219. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Clay Webb in the 240th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
