After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
McGlothern at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the 43rd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 68 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Devontez Walker at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Bucky Irving is a better player than pick No. 103 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in slot 137, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Tip Reiman in No. 180; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 6, Pick 18 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Trevin Wallace in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
