The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The cost of the Suamataia reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 11 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Keon Coleman was still sitting there in pick 68, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Kamren Kinchens all the way to slot 102, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Braelon Allen in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Johnson at the 136th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 179 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They let Tanner McLachlan come to them and pounced at the 231st pick. It fills a real need, too.
