The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
On value alone, Kneeland makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in the 34th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Devontez Walker at par in the 68th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ben Sinnott slipping to pick No. 137 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Dwight McGlothern was still sitting there in pick 180, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid a round early for Ryan Flournoy in slot 193, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 231; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
