After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. McGlothern at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the 47th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Cade Stover at No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Trey Benson, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to the 180th pick, and they scooped it up. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They took Justin Rogers at par in Round 6, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Trevin Wallace in pick 231, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
