The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The McLachlan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Olumuyiwa Fashanu at the 34th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Devontez Walker in Round 3, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Mahogany in No. 103. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Khyree Jackson in slot 137, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
