The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Watson at that price is a win they earned. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Adonai Mitchell in pick No. 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Fisher at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ben Sinnott at the 136th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Dwight McGlothern, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Nathaniel Watson was still sitting there in slot 229, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
