The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Drew Allar, Round 4, Pick 37, roughly 74 picks past where he belonged. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Every board in the league had Monheim lower, and that gap is the story.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Martin Emerson Jr. leading the way.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Will Campbell in slot 11, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Barrett Carter at Round 2, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dylan Sampson at the 72nd overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in pick No. 76, with Xavier Nwankpa worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Patrick Payton in the 85th pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Maxwell Hairston well ahead of where he belonged. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They jumped the gun on Raheim Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Billy Bowman Jr. in pick 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Theo Wease Jr. at Round 4, Pick 15 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jonah Monheim at the 134th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Drew Allar was still sitting there in the 138th pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
DJ Campbell in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Luke Lachey at par in No. 188, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
J.C. Davis slipping to pick 216 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had De'Corian Clark higher than pick No. 218, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dorian Strong in slot 223 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Anthony Belton a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kyle McCord at pick 242 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
