After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The Khalil Mack deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Adonai Mitchell at the 34th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Ja'Tavion Sanders at par in pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Kingsley Suamataia, who had no business lasting to pick No. 68. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at No. 103 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Mohamed Kamara in Round 5, Pick 1 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dwight McGlothern in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ty'Ron Hopper slid further than he should have, and slot 193 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Value with a capital V on Garret Greenfield in slot 231, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
