The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Caleb Williams, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The McCormick pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nothing to complain about; Cade Stover went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Brenden Rice at No. 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at Round 4, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylin Simpson at slot 137 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had Marist Liufau higher than the 180th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Mason McCormick in the 193rd overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Bub Means in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
