Nobody else had Spencer Rattler anywhere near the Round 3 slot. The Patriots did, by 51 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Landing McGlothern that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Ladd McConkey in No. 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in slot 38: Tyler Guyton for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Spencer Rattler at pick 68 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Benson in pick No. 103. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dallin Holker at Round 5, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and AJ Barner was the payoff at the 180th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevin Wallace. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
