The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Cam Hart, the No. 100 name on the board, sitting there at pick 137 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Wiley proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Patrick Paul in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalen McMillan in No. 103 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 137th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
By-the-book stuff, Khristian Boyd at pick 180 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wiley a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Garret Greenfield in Round 7, Pick 11 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
