The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Troy Franklin in the 34th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Kingsley Suamataia at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bucky Irving at No. 137 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Luke McCaffrey all the way to pick No. 180, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Myles Harden in the 193rd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Trey Taylor at par in Round 7, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
