Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Barner lower, and that gap is the story. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at pick No. 68, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in Round 4, Pick 3: Bucky Irving for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for AJ Barner at No. 145, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Dwight McGlothern in the 180th pick, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Justin Rogers at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 203 with a little surplus value in Curtis Jacobs. A minor itch, scratched.
A reach on Garret Greenfield in pick 207; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Trevin Wallace in Round 7, Pick 11; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
