The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Landing McGlothern that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Vidal reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 2, Pick 10 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamren Kinchens in the 86th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jalen McMillan. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
McKinnley Jackson slid further than he should have, and slot 137 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Marist Liufau in No. 180. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at pick 186. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid a round early for Tanner McLachlan in pick 193, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kimani Vidal in No. 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
