Thirty-one other rooms let Jack Nelson slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at No. 222. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Williams lower, and that gap is the story.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in pick 38, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Marcus Mbow for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Quinshon Judkins at the 77th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Danny Stutsman at the 105th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
