The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jake Majors, the 142nd pick, roughly 45 picks past where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Sturdivant to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE · rank 8
Abdul Carter at Round 1, Pick 12 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 20
Malaki Starks at the 40th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 21
A running back of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Xavier Watts · S · rank 49
Somehow Xavier Watts was still sitting there in the 71st overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Alfred Collins · DL · rank 66
Alfred Collins slipping to pick No. 74 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Darien Porter · CB · rank 82
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in pick 77. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.6 · Pick 107 · Danny Stutsman · LB · rank 91
Value with a capital V on Danny Stutsman in No. 107, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.4 · Pick 142 · Jake Majors · C · rank 97
Jake Majors in slot 142 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · J.Michael Sturdivant · WR · rank 233
They paid a round early for J.Michael Sturdivant in pick 219, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Jaishawn Barham · LB · rank 211
A quiet steal in slot 222: Jaishawn Barham for less than the market said. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.22 · Pick 236 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 223
A slide stopped in No. 236, with Terrance Ferguson worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
