If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Ott at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Adding Denzel Ward by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. They will need Ferguson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Deone Walker at pick 36 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Colston Loveland at the 67th overall pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Danny Stutsman in the 93rd pick, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Keon Sabb at slot 103 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Theo Wease Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaydn Ott in pick No. 217 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Terrance Ferguson at the 220th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Aydan White in pick 235, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
