Call it larceny. Nicholas Singleton sat on the board until the Round 7 slot, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Kenneth Grant, who had no business lasting to No. 38. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyler Warren at Round 3, Pick 5 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 77 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Danny Stutsman was still sitting there in the 143rd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Circle this one: Nicholas Singleton at pick 217 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Jared Wilson was the payoff at the 220th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 241 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
