The rest of the league will want that one back. Cam Skattebo tumbling to the Patriots in pick 217 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Reaching for Belton left real value on the table behind him. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at No. 38 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Matthew Golden at the 69th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Alfred Collins was still sitting there in pick 77, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Barrett Carter at pick No. 104 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Maxwell Hairston in Round 5, Pick 6 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A running back of that caliber at slot 217 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the 220th overall pick: Jaishawn Barham for less than the market said. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Anthony Belton at Round 7, Pick 22 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
