The rest of the league will want that one back. Kaleb Johnson tumbling to the Patriots in pick 220 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Taking Jahdae Barron in pick 36 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Omarion Hampton at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Harold Fannin Jr. in the 83rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at Round 4, Pick 4. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Elic Ayomanor was still sitting there in No. 142, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a running back like Kaleb Johnson reach pick No. 220 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Donovan Jackson at the 224th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Bryce Foster all the way to Round 7, Pick 27, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
