The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tyler Shough, the No. 142 name on the board, in slot 222.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Yarns pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

In pick 4 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Tyler Warren in the 38th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Donovan Jackson at par in the 81st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Jaylin Noel, who had no business lasting to slot 105. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jared Wilson in pick No. 118. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Billy Bowman Jr. in No. 145 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
