The rest of the league will want that one back. Bhayshul Tuten tumbling to the Patriots in pick No. 217 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Hook pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in the 38th overall pick, with Colston Loveland worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
They took Jayden Higgins at par in the 69th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Denzel Burke in slot 77, more than the board wanted. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Fair-plus on Jake Majors, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Cody Simon, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 6. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Bhayshul Tuten all the way to pick 217, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They talked themselves into Maxen Hook at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Antwane Wells Jr. at pick No. 238 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
