Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Ladd McConkey in Round 2, Pick 2, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trey Benson in slot 103 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dallin Holker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Dwight McGlothern at pick 180 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ryan Flournoy in No. 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Logan Lee at the 203rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on JD Bertrand in the 207th pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Trevin Wallace in No. 231 is fair value, right on his grade. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
