The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On value alone, McGlothern makes the weekend a net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at pick 34 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ladd McConkey at the 37th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 68 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bucky Irving at slot 103. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 137 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
You do not let a cornerback like Dwight McGlothern reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They went early on Tanner McLachlan in Round 6, Pick 18, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Trevin Wallace at par in Round 7, Pick 11, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
